Tour Description

Get away from the massive touristic places and be in direct contact with nature. Departing from Ponta Delgada, our first stop will be at the old Capital of São Miguel island, Vila Franca do Campo for you to have a overview of this beautiful village - also known for receiving ever year the Red Bull Cliff Diving - and also to try the first ever made pastry of the island the famous "Queijadas da Vila" (optional). After that and with the target on the island central massif we will visit the volcanic cones adjacent to Fire volcano where you can contemplate nested lakes surrounded by wild lush vegetation. Due to its 'hidden' location and access most of these places still remain unknown even for the local people and intact of any human intervention. The walking trail of Lagoa do Congro its a linear one done in steep terrain through a rain forest but without any doubt well worth the effort that is often crowned with the observation of endemic birds. This walk takes more or less an hour to be complete and we recommend the use of anti-slippery boots and sticks. This is a unique experience through the wilderness of São Miguel island and unmissable for nature lovers. After the walking trail and if you wish you will have one of the most fresh and delicious fish meals that we can guarantee you will never forget: "Caldo de Peixe" cooked on a typical restaurant and served with a lot of tradition (not available on Wednesday's). Our way back to Ponta Delgada will be made through the north coast of the island where you can admire the immensity of the Atlantic sea and have a final stop at Rabo de Peixe, the biggest Fishermans parish on the island, where you can take some colourful fotos of this picturesque village and friendly people.
